Stethoscopes

Although the tubing may look similar between the ProCardial® and MD One® Stethoscope Series, there are differences in the sound conduction and overall length.

The ProCardial® Stethoscope Series stethoscope tubing is about 58cm (22.84 inches), with a total overall stethoscope length of 79cm (31.10 in).

The MD One® Stethoscope Series including our stainless steel MD One® and titanium MD One® Epoch Stethoscopes, have our traditional tubing that is slightly longer at approximately 63cm (24.80 in) in length, but with a shorter overall stethoscope length of 75cm (29.53 in).

Most of our stethoscopes can be customized with a unique engraving message. The engraving is etched into the bell of the stethoscope so you can add your name or a personalized message. Stethoscope engraving is a great way to ID your stethoscope without a tag, or a meaningful gift for someone special (including yourself).

Our artisan Mprint Series, prints and metal finish colors are carefully curated to make an eye-catching pairing that offers a unique style. We are not currently offering full customization of combinations, however we would love to hear what you like!

MDF® Stethoscopes will vary in weight depending on the model however in general stainless steel stethoscopes will feel heavier compared to titanium and aluminum. Stainless steel is a great conductor of sound being a dense metal, however it can feel heavy to some practitioners over long periods of time, especially those night shifts.

Our ProCardial® Titanium Stethoscope weighs approximately 4.9oz compared to the stainless steel ProCardial® at about 9.6oz. For more details, check out 'The Ultimate Guide to All Types of Stethoscopes'.

The green dot indicator is a green dot that is located on the stem of the chestpiece and faces the open sounds channel. The green dot indicator should be facing the side of the stethoscope chestpiece that you are using to listen. If the green dot indicator is facing the other side, simply rotate the chestpiece to click and lock into place, opening the sound channel and side of the chestpiece you would like to use. For a step by step tutorial on how to use a stethoscope or troubleshoot a stethoscope that’s not working well, check out our guide on ‘How to Use a Stethoscope’.

MDF® ProCardial® and MD One® Epoch titanium stethoscopes have a patented chestpiece design that allows both the bell and diaphragm side to unscrew, replacing it with a bell and diaphragm sized for different patients. The ProCardial® stethoscope converts into a full adult, pediatric and infant/neonatal stethoscope with the four piece attachment clip. The MD One® Epoch titanium stethoscope converts into a full adult and pediatric stethoscope with the two piece attachment clip. To shop our attachment clips sold separately, click here.

Our Lifetime Warranty covers manufacturing defects, including the tubing. We also offer an extended M+Unity warranty that covers beyond issues related to the manufacturing and includes coverage for accidental damage in use.

Our Free-Parts-For-Life Program comes with all MDF Instruments® Stethoscopes and includes free eartips in three sizes, diaphragms, retaining rings, non-chill rings and ID tags; all sent to you for free, and as many times as you want.

In addition to our warranty and free stethoscope parts program, we offer a 90-Day Money Back Guarantee so that you can try your stethoscope, and if it’s not exactly what you wanted, return it within 90 days of your purchase for a full refund.

MDF Stethoscopes will have a true bell and true diaphragm, which means that each side of the stethoscope chestpiece (bell and diaphragm) are designed to pick up specific frequencies of sounds. The MDF® ultrasensitive diaphragm side of the chestpiece is equipped with a tightly sealed membrane that is effective for picking up high frequency sounds. The open and rounded bell of the chestpiece is ideal for listening to low frequency sounds. Sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish between high and low frequencies that we are listening for, so having a true bell and a true diaphragm helps us distinguish between them and takes the guesswork out of auscultation.

• If you know that you will need a top quality stethoscope you may want to invest in a cardiology stethoscope. Cardiology stethoscopes have several features that enhance sound transmission, for optimal sound quality.
• Will you need to see a variety of patient sizes? If you may need to see different sized patients, like pediatric or neonatal, or perhaps you are considering practicing veterinary medicine, then you may be interested in our ProCardial Titanium Stethoscope with convertible attachments. Attachment clips are sold separately so you can always add this on later, and they’re under $60 making this a great tool to have available for your ProCardial Titanium Stethoscope.
• Do I want something that’s lightweight? MDF® introduced titanium stethoscopes since titanium is dense, durable and even naturally corrosion resistant but it is lightweight unlike stainless steel, making it the first of its kind to provide uncompromised sound in a lightweight model.

Engraving is a great way to customize your stethoscope, and is offered by MDF® when you purchase on mdfanstruments.com. Write a custom message like your name and credentials or department, or write something meaningful and special to you. A personalized stethoscope with engraving also makes an extra special gift.

MDF® Mprint printed stethoscopes are made for reflecting your personal style. Offered with our titanium stethoscopes, choose from a variety of artisan printed tubes and different metal finish colors to create a stethoscope that brings joy to you, and your patients.

MDF® Stethoscopes are made with premium materials and assembled with care, so we’re able to back our stethoscopes with a Lifetime Warranty. There’s some wear and tear that will happen naturally as you use your stethoscope, so we offer free replacement stethoscope eartips, diaphragms, retaining rings, non-chill rings and ID tags as part of our Free-Parts-For-Life Program. Replacing these parts on a regular basis will help the longevity of your stethoscope and keep it more hygienic. MDF® also offers an extended warranty called M+Unity that covers accidental damage, like a snapped headset, water damage, car running over it or even if your dog chews it. Your stethoscope may need replacement parts and repairs at different times depending on the frequency of use, but we’re here to help your stethoscope last a lifetime.
